L’invention de la machine de Turing en 1936 rend possible le développement de l’informatique et de l’intelligence artificielle (IA). Les premiers ordinateurs sont toutefois plutôt destinés au calcul numérique ou à la gestion de bases de données. Il faut attendre les années 1970 pour que l’IA prenne véritablement son essor, avec l’apparition de nouveaux langages de programmation et de logiciels tels que les systèmes experts. Aujourd’hui, ce sont les réseaux neuronaux qui s’imposent, et cette réussite soulève des questions sur l’usage de l’IA, qui dépassent très largement le seul cadre de l’informatique.

Game engine softwares can be powerful tools for simulating and testing environments. Some systems are capable of rendering particle physics, with realistic rules for force, mass, acceleration, velocity, and momentum. For better understanding risks for a human health and performance, we have devevoped a predictive simulation model using a game engine and an AI mathematical model. Robust predictive simulation are suitable for validating a new gravitational environment, which will account for all of these factors by applying the laws of physics to an accurate and detailed biomechanical model. As an additional option, virtual reality tools which could be compatible with this developed simulation were tested ”in situation” to help to solve the ergonomic issues.

The expected benefits of our simulation:

• Analysis of human body interaction with machines and equipment• Calculation of energy consumption/well-being of a human for realization of a mission, partly or mostly• Calculation of human movements quantity for its action/mission realization• Testing of different scenarios of interior usage• Creation of optimal interior design taking into account the human biomechanics, which could be tested virtually• Prediction of the crew behavior, for example, during emergency situations

Any architectural design is related to an environment in two opposite and complementary ways : first, to take advantage of the natural resources of this environment; and – conversely – to be protected from its threats, or simply from its lack of natural resources. Spatial Architecture pushes this principle to its climax because it must be designed to adapt to all scenarios : possibility of exploiting solar energy (often), have local construction materials like regolith or vital resources like water ice (sometimes), but in most cases having degraded basic environmental parameters (low gravity or no gravity at all, low atmospheric pressure or no atmosphere at all …), and real major threats for long term inhabited settlements (radiation, micrometeorites, thermal amplitude, presence of abrasive, corrosive or toxic materials, insulation, …).

To address such constraints, Space Architecture requires a multidisciplinary approach, a close crossed look between architecture and engineering, to no longer see – as too often, in popular science-fiction for instance – projects aesthetically appealing but technologically unrealistic, or conceptually realistic but dull and far too austere for a place to live …

The project of “Musical and Spatial Electro Opera COSMOS” was initiated in 2019 by composer and musician Frederic Bousquet, founder of the musical ensemble INVENTOR, with the engineer and space designer Olivier Boisard, co-creator with Pierre Marx of the concept of space station “Apogeios” (presented at IAC 2012, IAC-12-E5.2.1).There are fundamentally two different ways of considering space: the first one as an observer or explorer, facing the beauty and diversity of the universe, trying to understand its meaning as a philosopher, describe and explain it as a scientist, or express and dream it as an artist. The second way is proposed by engineers or architects, motivated first by the will to build new human creations in space – villages on the Moon or Mars, giant inhabited spaces stations,manned spaceships sailing to the farthest points of the solar system…These two approaches combine and do not oppose each other. The purpose of COSMOS is to stage the diversity and complexity of this human adventure, and share it with the public in a multi-faceted / multi-media show : texts and music are performed by the group INVENTOR whose originality is to bring together exclusively creators (Inventors) and musicians playing on new original musical instruments – either acoustic or digital – issued from contemporary instrumental craftsmanship; on this music is built a space universe presented in 3D computer graphics, complemented by interactive animations piloted in real time.The COSMOS musical and spatial show was composed over a period of 3 years, from 2019 to 2021, and performed on several occasions, notably at ”La Seine Musical” (île Seguin, near Paris, 2019 and 2021), ”Le Reacteur” (Issy-les- Moulineaux, near Paris, 2019), ”La Genette Verte” (Florac, in the French Cevennes Natural Parc, 2021), and during an exceptional concert organized in August 2021 at the Royal Castle of Amboise, as a Tribute to Leonardo da Vinci. Our paper describes the genesis of this project, its concept, its developments during the creation and staging phase, its possible developments using Augmented or Virtual Reality techniques during the show, and – first of all – the way this live multi-media performance interacts with the public – of all generations – and communicate on the space adventure and its challenges through the emotion of music and images.

In a near future, Industrialisation of Space is likely to develop an unprecedented range of activities which, over the long-term, would result in the achievement of two main objectives : supplying the Earth with extraterrestrial material, and creating added value in space towards a whole new branch of economy. First steps of this Space Industrialisation should take place in Earth’s vicinity, exploiting the resources of the Moon.

Fast progresses in robotics and artificial intelligence could suggest, in a first approach, that presence of astronauts on the Moon is not an absolute necessity, given the cost and constraints of manned mis- sions. However, we must consider too that activities on the Moon will not only be simple systematic or repetitive processes, but all kind of innovative, complex and sophisticated technologies requiring a human supervision. For these reasons, we are convinced that the development of futur activities on our natural satellite will be accompanied bya humanpresence, as envisioned in the concept of ”Moon Village”.

To address these issues, the French Association ”Grand Projects 21”( AGP21) – Major Projects for the 21st Century – has launched a trans-disciplinary group of experts in the beginning of 2017. AGP21 is a unique organisation that takes into account both technical aspects of major programs or projects, and their ecological, socioeconomic, and possibly ethical consequences. It acts within the framework of sustainable development, planetary protection, and “social acceptability” regarding resources we share on – and beyond – the Earth.

The aim of this paper is to synthesise the six key themes identified by the working group for further reflection and studies on theMoon Village”Grandproject” : 1/ Space Industrialisation as aGrand Project, 2/ Location of the First Lunar Base, 3/ Space Transportation Systems, 4/ Closed Ecosystems 5/ The Moon Village from a Legal and Ethical Perspective, and 6/ Architectural Concepts.

The idea of using a space elevator to reach space is almost as old as the Eiffel Tower, which inspired Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1895. All implementation scenarios that have been imagined since that time are based on the assumption that the first deployment of the tether will be performed downwards, starting from the geostationary orbit. We propose a radically different approach where the tether is extended from the Earth surface using a ‘polar reel’ located at the South Pole. Once the required length has been extended, the anchor location is moved to an equatorial site. Then, the operational configuration is similar to ‘classical ‘ designs. As a first step, it is necessary to extend about 25.000 km of tether with a rotation period of 8 hours relative to the Earth. This would be achieved by launching, from a site located in Antarctica, a Soyouz or ARIANE 6 class launcher to which the tether would be attached.

The other end of the tether would be fixed to the rotating polar base and the tether itself would be sustained by a combination of planes and stratospheric balloons during the launch mission. Once the tether is rotating, it can be gently extended from the polar tower which will act as a reel. Up to an altitude of a few tens of kilometers, the tether will be sustained by propelled stratospheric balloons. Once the requested length of tether has been extended, the rotation relative to the Earth is cancelled and the lower part of the tether can be transferred to the equatorial location where the elevator will be operated. In the paper, we will demonstrate that this scenario is feasible with current technologies: polar base and logistics, launcher, balloons ,tether material, rotating architecture, transoceanic cables… We will not provide any cost figure but a Technological Readiness Level for the key features of this approach.

The orbit of asteroids like APOPHIS is difficult to extrapolate on the long term mainly due to the uncertainties upon the effect of non gravitational forces. The Yarkovsky Effect (YE), which is the main unknown, is a tiny but permanent thrust, the intensity and direction of which are directly related to the nature of the soil, the rotation characteristics and the physical properties of the asteroid. The SHADOW mission we propose would be phased in the following way:

– as soon as possible, send a probe to rendezvous with APOPHIS and provide the requested data to assess the YE. The probe itselfbeing tracked from the ground, the characterization of the resulting thrust can be achieved after a few months flyby.

– after assessing the risks of Earth impacts for the coming decades, a decision can be made about the possible mitigation techniques.

– if the YE is proved to be important, cancelling it will be sufficient to avoid a collision with the Earth. This can be achieved by shadowing and cooling the asteroid with a flotilla of solar shields.

Inspired by “space islands” imagined in the ’70s by the American scientist and engineer Gerard K.O’Neill, Apogeios is a concept of a city for 10,000 inhabitants, located at Lagrange point 5 of the Earth-Moon system. Built by robots with extraterrestrial material from the Moon and asteroids, protected from galactic radiation and solar wind, Apogeios offers residents the comfort of a real city and aunique socio-cultural environment. The sun provides all the necessary energy and brings warmth and light to greenhouses for food production and atmosphere recycling. As a prerequisite, an initial program of space industrialization will produce, locally and in large quantities, materials and equipment needed for construction and transportation. To this basic industry will be added latern finished products, but highly processed products such as drugs or computer hardware will continue to be manufactured on Earth.

Despite their high automation, minerals mining and processing, and first of all the construction of the city, will require the presence of man in situ. All the processes won’t be remotely controlled. More than “site sheds”, real living quarters will be needed. Larger and more autonomous thanthecurrent orbital stations, they prefigure the city to come. Besides their role in the industrialization and the construction, they will qualify number of essential functions such as artificial gravity, culture in greenhouses, recycling of air and water, ecosystem monitoring and safety. Time for such a project has not yet come, but this is more than science fiction according with today’s space technology. Ambitious as it may seem, it is feasible on an international basis and across one or two generations. The authors were awarded for the project «Apogeios” by the 2011 “Architecture, Design and Technology of Space Prize” from the Fondation Jacques Rougerie of the Institut de France.

The possibility to use the photonic pressure from the Sun for acting upon the orbit of a man-made object is well known. What is presented in this paper is the capacity to use a solar sail like vehicle to change the orbit of a small body of the solar system by hovering over its sunlit surface. One of the forces that affect the orbit of small bodies is a tiny but permanent thrust of thermal origin, theintensity and direction of which are directly related to the nature of the soil, the characteristics of the rotation and the physical properties of the body. This effect is known as the Yarkovsky Effect. […].

L’accessibilité des supports multimédias en ligne ouvre des perspectives nouvelles au rayonnement de la culture scientifique et technique. Si Internet s’est véritablement développé depuis un peu plus d’une décennie, son usage était banalisé au sein de la communauté scientifique internationale dès les années 70, dans un monde sans périphérie et à l’heure du « temps réel ». La culture scientifique et technique a désormais les moyens d’atteindre un plus large public – notamment par l’image et le multimédia – alors que l’évolution des réseaux et des usages conduit Internet à franchir un véritable « seuil qualitatif ».

[…]The development of new systems for the future has become a necessity, and research in suchareas as large structure dynamics, low thrust trajectories, hardware miniaturisation, sensors, guidance, etc.. need to be addressed extensively, in the laboratories, and through demonstrations in space. The construction and operation in space of a solar sail would be a good support for such a research effort, because it integrates most of the new areas in which development is needed, while leaving a great flexibility for design. A coordinated effort of the European public and industry research centers, focusing on a solar sail project could be very effective to advance the development of the new systems which are needed for deep space. A solar sail project is likely to receive popular support, especially in Europe, and therefore, to be politically acceptable for a public funding which is vital for the technical research laboratories.»

Argumentaire de la journée : “Par bien des aspects, le transhumanisme semble être de la science-fiction qui se prend au sérieux. Les utopies que les transhumanistes nous proposent ont d’abord habité les romans, les filmset lesséries de science-fiction : dépasser notre condition humaine, coloniser l’espace, vivre plusieurs siècles. Chacun a son propre stock d’images de ces « anticipations exagérées » (Ariel Kyrou) qui nous ont fait rêver ou effrayé. Les liens entre le transhumanisme et la science-fiction méritent donc d’être interrogés. Comment les transhumanistes lisent- ils la science-fiction ? Quels auteurs les inspirent ? Comment la science-fiction influence-t-elle leur façon de penser ? Et à l’inverse, comment des auteurs de science-fiction ont-ils pu anticiper le développement technologique, voire influencer le processus scientifique, la production et le financement technologique ? Quel rôle joue-t-elle dans sa réception ? Comment aide-t-elle à penser le développement technologique ? Car le transhumanisme peut se comprendre à la fois comme un courant de pensée,mais aussi comme un imaginaire socio- technique largement informé par les œuvres de science-fiction. Ce sont ces deux dimensions que cette journée souhaite interroger à travers les romans, films et séries télévisées de science-fiction qui mettent en scène le transhumanisme et nous proposent un improbable aller-retour vers les futurs possibles. Les séries télévisées seront l’objet d’une attention particulière car leur forme, et leur succès, en font un des modes de réflexion les plus efficaces sur les questions que nous adressent les propositions transhumanistes.”

Le secteur des activités spatiales est promis à des développements considérables au cours du 21ème siècle, visant entre autres à exploiter industriellement des ressources extraterrestres et à installer de façon durable des communautés humaines hors de la Terre. Les premières étapes de cette industrialisation de l’espace se dérouleronttout naturellement dans notre voisinage immédiat, sur la Lune, et verront apparaitre et se développer des cités habitées constituant – selon le terme popularisé par l’Agence Spatiale Européenne – le « Village Lunaire ». En raison de son impact sociétal, la justification d’un tel grand projet se doit d’être établie au-delà des aspects purement techniques et budgétaires : avant tout, peut-on définir plus précisément ce qu’il faut entendre par « village lunaire » ? Quelle est la place de l’Homme dans ceprojet, face aux autres défis majeurs qu’il devra affronter sur Terre à court et moyen terme ? Comment – et sous quelle forme – pourrait voir le jour un village lunaire ? Quels sont les enjeux d’une industrialisation de l’espace ? Depuis plus de cinquante ans, la conquête spatiale fait rêver, et se nourrit d’images où se mêlent l’actualité scientifique, les projets réalistes, et les fictions fantaisistes. Au sein des agences spatiales, de laboratoires universitaires, d’associations, voire d’entreprises privées, nombreux sont ceux qui tentent d’imaginer ce que sera demain l’exploration de l’espace. Certains projets répondent à d’importantes questions d’actualité, telles que la production d’énergie ou la protection de l’environnement. D’autres se tournent vers les planètes lointaines du système solaire, le retour de l’homme sur la Lune, ou l’envoi de missions habitées vers Mars … Peut-on assembler les éléments de ce puzzle dans un scénario de prospective présentant – jusqu’à l’horizon 2100 – les étapes les plus probables de l’aventure ? Quels en seraient les enjeux, les risques, les bénéfices ? Peut-on en décrire les réalisations les plus originales, les vaisseaux, les architectures ?

“En nous intéressant avec Pierre Marx aux cités spatiales, notre objectif a été d’identifier – à la lueur des acquis scientifiques de ces dernières décennies – les solutions technologiques, les contraintes, les hypothèses à approfondir …, afin de développer un concept architectural sinon réalisable à court terme, du moins plausible à l’horizon d’une à deux générations.

Imaginer une cité spatiale n’est pas qu’un simple jeu de l’esprit, c’est aussi un moyen d’aborder, sans a priori, des questions qui, à une autre échelle certes, se posent aujourd’hui sur Terre. En se tournant vers le futur, nous sommes également convaincus que ces cités deviendront un jour des réalités, et qu’il nous appartient dès à présent de les inventer …”

“This article proposes an alternative method to Markovian approaches through the housing sys- tems analysis (ASHA) model. Its objective is to simulate the impact of the housing stock on popu- lation redistribution at a given scale and duration, by modelling the processes whereby residential mobilities are linked, initiated either by a change in the housing stock, or by a movement of hous- ing releases that does not lead to a dwelling being occupied within the study area. The model takes into account the mobilities specific to each household category, in terms – for example – of social position, age, size or the dwelling occupied. It provides information on trends in the popu- lation structures of the different housing types brought about by vacancies-reoccupancies. The article begins by describing the model’s theoretical foundations (filtering process and housing vacancy chains) and conception. It then goes on to present, through the example of the city of Lille (Nord, France), a method of data classification that allows comparative analysis suited to the application of the ASHA model. Next, it illustrates the model’s analytical scope and the way it can be used to understand the organisation of a housing system. Finally, drawing on a number of examples (family accommodation, gentrification, housing programmes), it sets out the model’s operational utility and the way local managers can use it to understand and anticipate the impact of housing policy on the urban population.”

«L’objectif du modèle « Analyse des Systèmes d’Habitat (ASHA) », est d’analyser et mesurer l’impact de l’offre de logements sur la redistribution des populations à une échelle et une durée données, en simulant le processus par lesquels s’enchaînent les mobilités résidentielles initiées soit par une évolution du stock de logements (construction ou destruction), soit par un mouvement de libération qui ne provoque pas une occupation d’un logement dans le périmètre d’étude (départ d’un ménage vers l’extérieur du contexte étudié ou décès d’une personne seule par exemple). Le modèle tient compte des mobilités propres à chaque catégorie de ménage, selon leur position sociale, leur âge, leur taille ou le logement occupé par exemple. Il informe sur les évolutions des structures de peuplement des différents types de logements induites par les libérations-réoccupations.» …

Les incidences de cette forte croissance démographique sont au cœur des réflexions actuelles en matière d’aménagement et de développement durable, tenant compte des réalités socio-économiques de l’île, sur un territoire aux ressources par nature limitées, confronté aux questions fondamentales d’approvisionnement en eau, de production d’énergie, de transports, et de préservation d’un environnement naturel aussi riche que fragile. Face à ces questions complexes, l’imagerie satellitaire apporte des éléments d’observation fiables et précis »” …

“The project focussing on the use of remote sensing tools for the delimitation of agglomerations and for analysing the impact of major regional develoment projets, was launched at the beginning of 1995 in the framework of a Franco-Belgian partenariat and with cooperation with Eurostat.” …

“L’enjeu de cette étude était avant tout de proposer aux acteurs régionaux directement concernés par chacun des sites d’observation une cartographie descriptive fine des espaces naturels et artificialisés sur ces territoires. En second lieu, il s’agissait de faire avancer le débat sur la définition des agglomérations – considérées en l’occurrence sous des critères exclusivement morphologiques – qui a notre sens doit se poursuivre au niveau européen.” …

Chacun connait l’importance de la lumière dans la vie quotidienne. Cependant son rôle ne se limite pas à la vision : la lumière s’inscrit à l’origine même de notre vie sur Terre, par la capacité qu’elle offre aux plantes de produire l’oxygène que nous respirons. Principal moteur du climat, elle a également forgé notre environnement. Quant à l’avenir, elle nous promet des solutions aux crises que traverse actuellement notre société. Dans cette perspective, afin que chacun prenne conscience de son immense potentiel en matière de développement durable, énergétique ou sanitaire, l’Organisation des Nations unies a proclamé 2015 « Année internationale de la lumière et des techniques utilisant la lumière ».

Première publication, reprenant une communication présentée lors d’un colloque traitant de l’impact des réseaux de télécommunication sur l’aménagement du territoire, en 1988 à La Haye.

Préface de l’édition 1999 (nb : le challenge que je m’étais fixé en rédigeant cette préface signée par les trois institutions, était d’y placer le mot “CHOCOLAT”, en prenant les premières lettres des troisièmes mots de chaque phrase) : “En publiant ce Supplément 1999 de l’Atlas Nord – Pas-de-Calais, l’INSEE, le Conseil Régional, les leur coopération afin de complèter par 14 nouveaux thèmes le portrait régional dressé dans la première édition de l’Atlas Régional en 1995.Disposer aujourd’hui d’un ouvrage généraliste, présentant avec la rigueur de la statistique et la clarté de la cartographie les grandes caractéristiques de la région, est un moyen privilégié d’appréhender la réalité régionale dans toute sa richesse et sa complexité et permet d’identifier les enjeux majeurs pour la région.Un tel « outil d’aide à la décision » a pour vocation de susciter des interrogations et d’alimenter les débats par la confrontation des multiples images de la région qu’il présente. Avec cette contribution, qui dans l’esprit du précédent Atlas s’adresse au plus large public, souhaitons que les acteurs régionaux apprécient là une réfèrence originale utile à la poursuite de leurs réflexions.Remercions les organismes régionaux nombreux, ainsi que leurs experts, issus des services de l’Etat, du Conseil Régional, de l’Université, des institutions régionales, qui ont accepté de coopérer à la réalisation de cet ouvrage dans une véritable logique de réseau. En attendant la réédition globale de l’Atlas, à la suite du prochain recensement de population, ce Supplèment1999 témoigne de cette volonté de poursuivre la démarche lancée voici maintenant plus de quatre ans.C’est à chacun d’entre nous qu’il revient de valoriser les ressources de notre région ainsi présentées. Et de travailler ensemble pour préparer le Nord – Pas-de-Calais aux défis du siècle prochain, c’est-à-dire demain.”

Le web est généralement présenté comme une invention de chercheurs du CERN, à la fin des années 80. Elle ne faisait que généraliser, sur une BDD partagée, la notion d’hypertexte déjà bien connue des utilisateurs d’Hypercard, dans le monde Mac. Cet article présente un logiciel, développé sous Turbo-Prolog, permettant de structurer des notes de lectures sur le mode hypertexte. …

Bien avant la libéralisation d’Internet, la France était, dans les années 80, un des pays en pointe dans le domaine de la télématique, grâce au Minitel. Quel serait l’impact de ces nouveaux réseaux sur l’aménagement du territoire ? ...

En entrant dans la « société de l’information », les acteurs publics – comme les entreprises – se sont légitimement interrogés sur la place à donner aux technologies de l’information et de la communication – qu’on disait « nouvelles » – dans les dispositifs existants. Au delà des projets qui ont pu être conduits ici ou là, on constate – c’est ce qui nous parait essentiel – une prise de conscience générale des enjeux liés à la mise en œuvre des « TIC », dépassant le seul registre technologique pour toucher à des modes d’organisation, de communication, et d’échange.
